Erasmus - Effective Classroom Practice

The Effective Classroom Practice Course aims to help teachers to reflect on and develop their own teaching practice. We will explore ways of adapting lesson shapes and materials to increase engagement and interaction, as well as tailoring lessons to meet learners’ differing needs. Other topics covered include classroom management, learner-centred teaching, assessment, and participants’ own language development.

With recent shifts to online learning and technology-enhanced classrooms, we are conscious that there can be an overwhelming amount of information and resources available. This can place additional pressures on teachers to prepare and deliver effective learning. A key focus of the course is to help teachers navigate the wealth of information and to focus on what simple steps really make a difference to planning, teaching and learning.

The central objectives of the Effective Classroom Practice Course are:

  • To help teachers focus on professional practice and knowledge
  • To enhance trainees’ professional status, both within their teaching institutions and within the profession as a whole

Specific objectives include:

  • Promoting effective classroom management and communities of best practice
  • Empowering teachers to make decisions that impact positively on learning
  • Help teachers to flexibly plan lessons and adapt materials to enhance learning

Course Preparation:

Participants who are already practising teachers are also invited to complete a brief selection of self-observation sheets to encourage them to analyse their own classroom performance in their own teaching situation, prior to the start of their course. These self-observation sheets are submitted to the Course Director at the start of the course, helping him or her to gain more insight into the teachers’ backgrounds and to better anticipate the teachers’ needs during the course.

Outcomes:

These courses provide a forum for development of your professional skills, from insights into recent developments in English language teaching to practical classroom ideas and activities. They are also designed to develop your knowledge of contemporary English usage and provide you with the opportunity to improve your all-round competence in English.

On completion of this course, participants will have increased confidence in their ability to use English in everyday situations and in the classroom.

Through the use of CEC’s online learning platform, course participants work with their language trainer to establish a learner plan and learning objectives to continue their learning journey after completion of the course.
