ACCOMMODATION
Our IELTS Preparation Evening Classes are ideal for those living and working in Cork who are looking to improve their English and prepare for an internationally recognised exam on a part time basis. Classes are spread over 8 to 10 weeks throughout the year and allow you to prepare for the IELTS exam with our expert teachers in small interactive classes.
Our qualified and experienced teachers use a variety of published and authentic exam materials to help students to prepare and perfect their test taking technique. The course covers the four IELTS skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and prepares students for the Academic exam format.
This course aims to familiarise students with the format and requirements of the exam and to provide timed and monitored exam practice, as well as feedback and advice for the various parts of the exam.
Participants can take the IELTS exam at Cork English College. Please note you are advised to register for the IELTS exam 5 weeks before the examination date.

Our IELTS Exam Preparation programme focuses on helping you develop your test taking techniques and overall English language skills through a variety of useful and engaging materials and activities.
Every week will include:
- Grammar and vocabulary points based on your needs and goals
- A focus on speaking, classes designed to maximise your speaking time
- Targeted test taking techniques
- Engaging listening and reading activities from a range of IELTS sources
- Dedicated homework to support your exam preparation
- Daily detailed error correction from your teacher for continuous improvement
- End of week feedback to give you general guidance, direction and confidence on your IELTS preparation journey

What type of activities can I look forward to?
We endeavour to cater for most tastes when it comes to activities, so we provide a wide choice, ranging from cultural visits to historic places of interest, to sports and lively night out. We want to make sure that you enjoy yourselves while you’re studying.
How will I get to the school?
All of our accommodation is either within easy walking distance of the school or within easy reach by public transport.
Where is the school located?
The school is located right in the heart of Cork, on the banks of the river Lee, but we’ll keep you too busy to admire the view! It is also within close walking distance of Cork’s main bus terminus and railway station.
Who else will be studying there?
We have students from all over the world studying with us, which adds greatly to the friendly atmosphere. So far in 2023 we have had over 40 different nationalities study with us already!
Can I change my accommodation if I don’t like it?
Yes, our aim is to make sure that you are as comfortable as possible during your stay in Cork. If you have any issue with your accommodation we can arrange for you to speak with our dedicated accommodation office to find a solution.
What type of accommodation can I expect?
What type of accommodation would you like? We have a full range of options from living with a host family to self-catering apartments and hotels.
Will I be able to use the internet and email?
Yes, we have high speed Wi-Fi available for all students in each of our school buildings.
Will I get a certificate at the end of my course?
Yes, we’re a fully accredited and recognised school. You’ll receive a certificate of attendance at the end of your programme stating your exit level, course title and number of weeks. Don’t forget to get your photo taken with your certificate on your last day!
