Part time trainers
For a course to run from end September 2013 to mid December 2013.
Location: Cork
Job Specification:
The ideal candidates should have a high level of expertise as well as an M.A. or similar qualification in
business-related subjects such as commerce, business administration, ICT, etc. Suitable candidates
should also have the ability to impart knowledge and skills effectively to others. A teaching qualification
is desirable as is previous experience of teaching similar courses at third level.
Course will include the following modules:
- 1. Marketing
- 2. Communication & Negotiation
- 3. Quantitative Management Tools
- 4. ICT – advanced IT
- 5. Business Environment
- 6. Management
- 7. Business English
Teaching Staff Requirements:
- Be able to teach programme content in a coherent manner taking into consideration that the course participants are not native speakers and tailoring own language to accommodate this.
- Be able to compile course content based on the course outline as given by CEC.
- Ensure that all aspects on the course outline are included in the programme content.
- Design ,correct and grade an exam at the end of the module to assess content covered and ability of student to communicate the content.
- Identify students who may have particular weaknesses and instruct students on how to overcome these.
- Be innovative in the approach to teaching course content so that it is both informative and enjoyable for the course participants.
- Prepare handouts on course content appropriate to the level of the students.
- Ensure students have understood course content.
- Give students guidance on how to approach academic writing tasks.
- Encourage students to do self-study and to interact efficiently in groups as well as developing autonomy in learning and taking responsibility for their work and the work of others.
- Encourage course participants to be in a position to explain key concepts of the course content.
- Ensure students can demonstrate a broad range of research and communications skills and tools.
- Ensure students can utilise a range of academic research, investigate and evaluative skills.
- Motivate students to apply contemporary academic investigative and research skills.

Centre Managers
Location: Cork
The Junior Centre Manager tasks include the following:
- Ensure the smooth running of the junior centre
- Liaise between group leaders, teaching staff and students
- Report regularly to main CEC office
- Maintain student satisfaction
- Deal with complaints/problems in a professional and appropriate manner
- Promote and maintain a pleasant working atmosphere for all junior centre staff
- Pay attention to student and employee welfare and safety and prioritise this at all times
- Coordinate
- Manage the logistical aspect of the activity and excursion programme
- Respond to client needs/demands when necessary
- Keep to budget constraints

Director of Studies
Location: Cork
The Junior Centre Director of Studies tasks and responsibilities include the following:
- Organise the timetable on a weekly basis taking into account teaching experience/ level preferences/special requests
- Complete all paperwork associated with the role of DoS and maintain all paperwork for handover to main centre at end of junior centre term
- Hold staff meetings
- Assist teachers with ideas and suggestions when necessary
- Manage and organise the teaching staff
- Observe and appraise teaching staff
- Oversee the level testing and placement of new arrivals
- Deal with academic issues or complaints
- Monitor student progress on a weekly basis
- Communicate regularly with teaching staff to ensure the smooth delivery of the academic programmes
- Communicate regularly with main CEC centre
- Log all complaints/suggestions
- Input feedback on teaching performance and relay to main centre

EFL Teachers
Location: Cork
The tasks and responsibilities of a CEC junior centre teacher are as follows:
- Teach junior classes adhering to the junior centre academic programme ensuring that classes are both informative and enjoyable. The main emphasis should be on the speaking skills
- Assist with correction and grading of placement tests
- Complete attendance registers for both classes taught daily and fill in lesson reports in detail
- Participate fully in the informal ‘buddy system’ in use at CEC which encourages more experienced and returning teachers to assist new and less-experienced members of staff
- Participate fully in the activity and excursion programme as organised by CEC
- Prioritise the health and safety of students and staff at all times
- Complete activity report forms after every activity
