English & Multi Activity Programme (Four to One)

This programme is available to junior students between the ages of 12 and 17. The advantage of attending this programme is that the students are taught in very small groups allowing the teacher to focus on the individual problem areas of each participant. The students attend classes in the mornings or afternoons and when not attending class, participate in activities and excursions always in the company of their group leader and teacher.
Accommodation: Students stay two per house in an Irish host family which has been carefully selected by the Cork English College Accommodation Dept. The accommodation is on a full board basis. Students share a room with another student. This allows students to experience Irish family life while continuing to put their language skills to practical use.
Activities: The activities include sports as well as excursions to venues of cultural and historical interest.
Academic : Students are placed in classes with a maximum of 4 participants allowing for plenty of individual attention. The small number of participants per class allows the teacher to indentify and work on weaknesses. Due to the small number in the class, the amount of student talking time per participant is maximised permitting the students to fully exploit and improve their speaking skills. Work on the skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening is also included as part of the course content. A progress test every Friday ensures that the progress of each individual is monitored on an ongoing basis. CEC teachers are native English speakers and fully qualified in the teaching of English as a foreign language. All possess a primary degree in addition to TEFL qualifications. All centres are recognised by the Irish Dept. of Education. The use of course materials is included. Due to the high level of personal attention afforded by the teacher, students on this programme tend to make very rapid progress.
