English & Sailing Programme

Course Code :LS107

Accommodation :

Students reside with carefully selected Irish host families in the same area/close to the area where the junior school is located. Accommodation is on a full board basis. Students share a room with a student of another nationality. This allows students to experience Irish family life while continuing to put their language skills to practical use.

Activities:

After the morning languages lessons have finished, the students on the English and Sailing programme are escorted to an international sailing centre outside of Cork to enjoy sailing on five afternoons per week. All equipment is provided by the sailing centre, including wetsuits and buoyancy aids. A full day excursion is provided every Saturday as well as three evenings activities per week. The evening activities consist of bingo, karaoke and a disco.

Academic:

The morning lessons commence at 9 am and finish at 12.15pm from Monday to Friday. Classes are interactive and the main focus is on improving the students’ spoken ability and vocabulary expansion. All students undertake a placement test on arrival to ensure that they are placed in a class with students of a similar ability. A progress test every Friday ensures that the progress of each individual is monitored on an ongoing basis. CEC teachers are native English speakers and fully qualified in the teaching of English as a foreign language. All possess a primary degree in addition to TEFL qualifications. All centres are recognised by the Irish Dept. of Education. The use of course materials is included. The average number of students per class is 10-12 with a maximum of 15.
