English & Rugby Programme

Accommodation:
Students on this programme reside with carefully selected Irish host families. Accommodation is offered on a full board basis. Students share a room with a student of another nationality. This allows students to experience Irish family life while continuing to put their language skills to practical use.
Activities:
Welcome to the home of Munster Rugby !! During the afternoon rugby training sessions the English learnt in the classroom will be reinforced on the rugby pitch with the English speaking professional coaches. The coaching will focus on all aspects of the game and may include tackling, taking the ball into contact, ball handling skills and performing skills under pressure. The coaching methods will depend on the age of the students. Students will also participate in fixtures with Irish teams.Three evening activities per week are also included along with a full day excursion to a venue outside Cork every Saturday.
Academic:
The language classes are held from 9 am to 12.15pm on a daily basis from Monday to Friday. Classes are interactive and the main focus is on improving the students’ spoken ability and vocabulary expansion. All students are assessed on arrival to ensure that they are then placed in classes with students of a similar ability. A progress test every Friday ensures that the progress of each individual is monitored on an ongoing basis. CEC teachers are native English speakers and fully qualified in the teaching of English as a foreign language. All possess a primary degree in addition to TEFL qualifications. All centres are recognised by the Irish Dept. of Education. The use of course materials is included. The average number of students per class is 10-12 with a maximum of 15.
