English & Multi Activity Programme (Host Family)

Course Code :EL101

Accommodation :Students reside with carefully selected Irish host families in the same area/close to the area where the junior school is located. Accommodation is on a full board basis. Students share a room with a student of another nationality. This allows students to experience Irish family life while continuing to put their language skills to practical use.

Activities:Students on the English and Multisport programme attend classes in the mornings from Monday to Friday from 9am to 12:15 pm. After lunch the students can enjoy an afternoon of sport activities such as rounders, table-tennis, football and board games on three afternoons a week. On the other two afternoons, they go on excursions to venues of historical or cultural interest such as museums, art galleries and castles. Evening activities take place on three evenings per week and include karaoke, bingo and a disco. A full day trip is provided every Saturday to a venue further afield.

Academic:All students are assessed for language ability on arrival and are placed in classes with students of a similar level. Classes are interactive and the main focus is on improving the students’ spoken ability. A progress test every Friday ensures that the progress of each individual is monitored on an ongoing basis. CEC teachers are native English speakers and fully qualified in the teaching of English as a foreign language. All possess a primary degree in addition to TEFL qualifications. All centres are recognised by the Irish Dept. of Education. The use of course materials is included. The average number of students per class is 10-12 with a maximum of 15.
