Academic Year / Long Stay Programmes

Course Code :EAP

The long stay or academic year programme offered by Cork English College is open to all students from beginners to advanced level.

Each student’s learning objectives , as identified on the first morning of the course or prior to arrival, are integrated into the course content. The learner-centred, communicative approach to learning ensures that students make steady progress and achieve their learning objectives. Students are encouraged to participate in class and to contribute actively to their language learning. A progress test each Friday morning presents not only the academic management, but also the student him/herself with tangible evidence of the progress made and also assists in pinpointing new goals as well as identifying problem areas which may require additional work.

Optional self-study is also available at no additional cost and students are actively encouraged to exploit this service fully in order to complement the work done in the classroom.

Students on this long stay programme have the opportunity of transferring from general English to a range of other options such as examination preparation courses for either the Cambridge IELTS or TOEIC exams, or a Business English course once their level permits.

These courses are designed for students who need to improve their English language and study skills before commencing an undergraduate or postgraduate degree or PhD at an Irish University. On successful completion of these courses, students will be recommended for study on their chosen degree at 3rd level institutions such as :

  • University College Cork
  • Cork Institute of Technology
  • Waterford Institute of Technology
